Reduce your carbon footprint

Carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of activities such as driving and the burning of fossil fuels for the uses of electricity and heating.

Ways you can reduce your carbon footprint include:

  • Swap to renewable or solar-powered energy.

  • Decrease the amount of driving, and opt for options such as walking, cycling, carpooling or public transport.

  • Decrease the purchases of new products and fast fashion.

  • Switch to solar-powered or LED light bulbs for your house.

  • Reduce energy usage, such as turning all the lights off when you leave the house or going to bed.

  • Buy locally-sourced or organic produce.

  • Reduce your water usage by taking 2-3 minute showers, turning on the washing machine when you have a full load and using water-efficient toilets.

  • Recycle! For example, in Australia, there are recycling bins for your cans, glass bottles and plastic bottles, in which you receive 10c for every bottle that is recycled.

  • Compost your food scraps.

Not everyone can implement all of these activities in their daily routine, but even the small changes such as quicker showers, turning off the lights, more walking, less eating out and recycling can have an impact.
